Dr. Allan Johnson is a Professor and Interim Chairman of the Department of Nutritional Sciences in the Division of Allied Health Sciences, in the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences at Howard University. Prior to this position he served as Chairman of the Department of Nutritional Sciences for nine years, and as Associate Dean of the Division of Allied Health Sciences for seven years. Dr. Johnson holds a B.Sc. (first class honors) in chemistry from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, as well as MS and Ph.D. degrees in international nutrition from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

Dr. Johnson is an active researcher, having received over $16 million in competitive research grants from the U.S. Agency for International Development, the National Institutes of Health, and the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. Also, he has received several internal Howard University research grants. Dr. Johnson’s current research interests include risk factors for overweight and obesity, and the cardiovascular diseases.

Publications by Dr. Johnson have appeared in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the Journal of Nutrition, the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, Ecology of Food and Nutrition, the American Journal of Public Health, the Maternal and Child Health Journal, the Journal of the National Medical Association, and the Journal of the National Society of Allied Health. Also, he has delivered over 140 professional presentations at national and international meetings.

Awards received by Dr. Johnson include the Research Award from the National Society of Allied Health; Appreciation Awards from the Howard University School of Human Ecology Graduate Student Association; the Most Productive Ph.D. Mentor Award, and the Faculty Exemplar Award from the Howard University Graduate School. In 2012 he was inducted as a Fellow of the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions.

Gloria L. Rogers, DPT, MMS, PT is a retired physical therapy educator, administrator, and clinician. Currently, she is the Executive Director of the National Society of Allied Health (NSAH). Past positions and responsibilities with the NSAH include Secretary, Chairperson of the Bylaws Committee, the Nomination and Elections Committee, and Interim President from 2015 to 2016. During her professional career, Dr. Rogers taught 17 years at Howard University and served as Chairperson of the Department of Physical Therapy, College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS) from 1979 to 1987. She taught at The George Washington University for 12 years and was Acting Program Director of the Physical Therapy Program in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences from 2002 to 2004.
Her community and professional service has included President of the Board of Directors of the Capital City Area Health Education Center of Washington, DC, Board member of the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education, Chairperson of the District of Columbia Physical Therapy Examining Board, member of the DC Health Advisory Committee, and President of the DC Physical Therapy Association. Dr. Rogers has received Distinguished Service Awards from the CAHS at Howard University, the Health Sciences Programs at the George Washington University, and from the DC Physical Therapy Association.
Dr. Rogers has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania, a Physical Therapy degree from the D. T. Watson School of Physiatrics at the University of Pittsburgh, a Master of Medical Science from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, Massachusetts. Her clinical and research interests are in the areas of musculoskeletal dysfunction and health and wellness promotion in the aging population.

Mary Simmons, Ph.D., MPH, RRT serves as an Associate Professor and Director at Florida A & M University.  In that capacity, she is responsible for the overall function of the Cardiopulmonary Science (CPS) program in the School of Allied Health Sciences, the Division of Cardiopulmonary Sciences.  Dr. Simmons is a graduate of Florida A&M University at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Her undergraduate degree is in respiratory therapy in which she remains an active practitioner and contributor to the field.   Her master degree focused on community and public health with an interest in occupational health. Dr. Simmons completed her doctorate degree at Walden University in Community Health.

Dr. Simmons research background includes: Obesity and Drug Use among Adolescents, HIV/AIDS-What’s your Status, and The Harmful Effects of Tobacco on the Respiratory System.  Dr. Simmons has served as the chair of the local chapter of the American Lung Association, where she was responsible for conducting research and fund raising for individuals who suffer from lung diseases.

Dr. Simmons is a member of the American Association for Respiratory Care, the Florida Society for Respiratory Care, the National Society of Allied Health Sciences and the Tallahassee Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc.  She is married to Craig Simmons and they have one child, Jazmyne Simmons.

Dr. Mildred K. Fuller is Vice Provost at Norfolk State University. She was formerly dean of the Graduate School, a professor of Medical Technology and Chair of the Department of Allied Health Professions at Norfolk State University. She holds the B.S. degree in Biology and Chemistry from North Carolina Central University, the Master of Education degree from Tuskegee University, and the Ph.D. degree in Urban/Health Services from Old Dominion University. She holds membership in the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS), American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), National Certifying Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NCA), American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), Review Board Member, Journal of Clinical Laboratory Science, National Society of Allied Health (NSAH) Board of Directors and Treasurer, and the Virginia State Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (VSSCLS).

She is a published author and the recipient of grant funding from the Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA); Virginia Department of Health Resource Mothers Program; the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia; and the U.S. Department of Education Title III. Her research interests include: teen pregnancy, sickle cell anemia, and the scholarship of teaching. Her honors at Norfolk State University include: Teacher of the Year Award (1995-96); Presidential Distinguished Service Award (2007), and the Commonwealth of Virginia Eminent Scholar Award (2008).

Montrale Boykin currently serves as the Department Co-Chair and a faculty member in the Healthcare Management Department at Winston-Salem State University. The department includes an undergraduate program and the Master of Health Administration program. In his role as co-chair, he is responsible for classroom instruction, advising, day-to-day department operations, assisting students toward successful program completion, helping maintain/grow student enrollment and fiscal responsibility of the program. He has taught in both the Division of Nursing (Success Strategies I & II) and in the Healthcare Management Program .The curriculum of the Master of Health Administration program was redesigned in 2015 and was developed based on a competency model with an emphasis on leadership. Dr. Boykin worked with faculty, staff, students and other stakeholders on the program’s design. Dr. Boykin also led the effort for the initial certification of the undergraduate Healthcare Management by the Association of University Program in Healthcare Administration in 2017 and recertification in 2020.

Prior to the appointment of Department Chair in August 2012, he served as the Contract Coordinator for the School of Health Sciences at Winston-Salem State University. As Contract Coordinator he was responsible for drafting, researching, negotiating and analyzing all contracts in the School of Health Sciences before submission to the Office of Legal Affairs. He served in the legal and healthcare fields for the past seventeen years. Prior to joining Winston-Salem State University he worked in a civil litigation law firm that focused on personal injuries, medical negligence, contract law, worker’s compensation, and employment discrimination.

Montrale Boykin graduate Magna Cum Laude with Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a concentration in Public Administration from North Carolina Central University and a post baccalaureate certificate in Health Administration from East Carolina University. He also earned a Juris Doctor degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law.

Dr. Boykin is a member of the American Bar Association, The Association of University Programs in Health Administration, The American College of Healthcare Executives, American Health Lawyers Association, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated and Immediate Past President of The National Society of Allied Health. He is also the recipient of the Triad Business Journal’s 40 Leaders under Forty and North Carolina Central Forty under Forty Alumni Award. His experience and research interest are in healthcare policy, competency-based education, the legal aspects of healthcare and increasing diversity in healthcare administration.

Revenda A Greene, PT, DPT, PhD is an Associate Professor at Howard University.  Currently, she is the Editor in Chief of the Journal of the National Society of Allied Health.  During her professional career, Dr. Greene has taught 25 years at Howard University and served as Chairperson of the Department of Physical Therapy.

Her community and professional service has included membership and service as an officer in the DC Physical Therapy Association.  Dr. Greene has received Distinguished Service Awards from the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences at Howard University.

Dr. Greene has a Bachelor of Bachelor of Science and a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Howard University in Washington, DC,  a Master of Health Services Administration from George Washington University in Washington, DC,  and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Maryland at College Park.  Her clinical and research interests are in the areas of health disparities.

Dr. Portee is currently the Dean of the College of Health Sciences, and a Tenured, Associate Professor in the Physical Therapy program at Alabama State University. She has served as the Founding Director of the Physical Therapist Assistant Programs at Chattahoochee and West Georgia Technical Colleges and as an Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy at North Georgia College and State University (now, North Georgia University), where she was the Director of Clinical Education. Dr. Portee was also the Director of Rehabilitation Services at Haralson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the President of the first black-owned independent physical therapy contract service in Georgia. Additionally, she was a Physical Therapy instructor at Georgia State University and a staff physical therapist at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

Dr. Portee completed her Ph.D. in Health Administration/Physical Therapy at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy and her Master of Science Degree in Exercise Science from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology from Fisk University in Nashville, TN. Dr. Portee’s research areas have included cultural competence, health disparities, health promotion, professional behaviors, and women’s health. Dr. Portee has served the profession of Physical Therapy for nearly 40 years. She is a charter member and Fellow of the American Academy of Physical Therapy (AAPT). Dr. Portee served as a member of the AAPT’s executive committee for over 30 years, including the office of President for nine years. A few of her other professional activities have included being a member of the Georgia State Board of Physical Therapy for 14 years, including two terms as President and member of the Education Committee for the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy. She has served on various committees and in many leadership roles in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).

Dr. Portee was elected to the APTA’s Nominating Committee and appointed to the APTA’s Judicial Committee, and served as the Chair for each of those committees. She served on the Central Panel of the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education, the APTA task force for the revision of the code of ethics documents, and she was a student member of the Advisory Council on Minority Affairs, which established the APTA’s Minority Scholarship Fund and the Minority Scholarship Award for Academic Excellence. Dr. Portee was Vice President and Chapter Delegate for the Physical Therapy Association of Georgia (now, APTA-GA). She is a member of the Health Policy and Administration, Education, and Sports Sections of the APTA. Dr. Portee is also involved in multiple civic and public service activities, including Board member of the Georgia/International Partners of the Americas and an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Patricia Y. Talbert received her Ph.D. in Public Health specialization in Epidemiology /Community Health Promotion and Education from Walden University and she holds several nationally accredited degrees.  She specializes in studies of higher education and public health with a primary focus on women’s health, behavioral modification and change, health promotion, and education. Dr. Talbert’s research interests include primary prevention with a focus on social and physical determinants of health and health disparities. She has worked as an educator, academic mentor, researcher, and consultant for 30 years, plus held multiple leadership positions.

She has many publications, grants, and presentations focusing on leadership, public health, community-health and wellness, and business with a recent publication, addressing COVID-19 and its impact on businesses and Human Resources (HR), called HR Strategies and Lessons Learned during the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Literature Review. She has reviewed multiple grants as an HRSA Grant Reviewer and collaborated to evaluate business and academic programs, plus project initiatives. Dr. Talbert is a dedicated and performance-driven leader and public health practitioner who is passionate about exploring leadership strategies to improve operations and processes and working to promote health and wellness at a societal level.  She also serves as a Tenured Associate Professor /Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Administration for Howard University, College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences.
